Ferenc Erkel Award-winning composer and jazz pianist János Nagy's ensemble is the kind of "experiment” that has already been proven, with members Dominique Di Piazza, Borlai GergÅ‘ and Xavier Desandre Navarre having already joined him on a concert tour around Hungary early in the year and also recording a joint album. Müpa Budapest offers a worthy venue for the group's Budapest début, and for this remarkable occasion they will be joined by two guest artists.
Dominique Di Piazza is a bass guitarist with a unique picking technique and an inimitable virtuoso of the five-string instrument. In addition to the greats from his homeland of France, he has played with John McLaughlin and Trilok Gurtu, and has toured America, Africa and India. Xavier Desandre Navarre's partners have included Gil Evans, Michel Portal, Randy Brecker, David Sanborn, Charlie Haden and Tania Maria. He has played on the soundtracks for Luc Besson's Léon, the Professional and Menno Meyjes's Manolete, among other films. It seems incredible, but it is 24 years now that the band leader has been playing with the now internationally renowned GergÅ‘ Borlai in high-energy line-ups that include, since 2001, the European Mantra ensemble. This team, with their unique and remarkable sound, primarily play Nagy's own compositions. Grammy Award-winning piano and composer Russell Ferrante described their music by saying that "János Nagy has woven from musical notes a rich tapestry with graceful lyricism, film-like structure and beautiful and unexpected harmonies.”
